How scalable IT solutions support the fight against the pandemic — the story of collaboration with HSE

We developed a scalable COVID-19 testing registration system for all of Ireland, delivering antigen tests directly to citizens’ homes. This project demonstrated how modern technologies like AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, ReactJS, and Python can support pandemic response at a massive scale. Our project for the HSE, the Irish health ministry, exemplifies how technology can support society during challenging pandemic times.

We created a scalable and secure COVID-19 antigen test registration system that serves the entire country — over 6 million people. Using AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, ReactJS, and Python, we built a flexible and efficient solution that enabled automatic delivery of tests directly to citizens’ homes. This approach differed significantly from Poland’s, where testing required self-registration and visiting test centers.

The challenge was to ensure reliability and security at such a large scale and process thousands of requests daily. Collaboration with our Irish partner Vision helped us understand local market specifics and user needs, leading to a smooth deployment. The project demanded particular care for infrastructure scalability and continuous operation, allowing the system to handle sudden traffic spikes without slowdowns or outages.

Importantly, this project demonstrated how our experience in Python programming and building modern ReactJS web applications translates into real benefits for millions of users. Although we did not receive official references, the cooperation and final outcome prove we can meet the demands of large-scale, high-responsibility projects.

At Webtechnika, we focus on continuous development and adopting the latest technologies — although Docker was not used here, we use it in other projects to containerize applications, demonstrating our readiness for diverse technical challenges.
